Our mission is to create equitable access to products, green spaces, and learning environments that support community health and well-being, and foster creativity and innovation.
Services:
Loon Bay Youth Works
We provide services to schools and youth programs that foster the development of culturally-inclusive garden spaces and programming that highlight community connection to history and culture as a path to health, understanding, healing, and power.
Loon Bay Landscaping and Design
We provide garden design services and installation, specializing in garden designs that educate about place and community by incorporating culturally significant veggie varieties, Native plants and herbs, with the option of including interpretive signs (because I wanna be a park ranger).
Katie’s Work Experience:
Katie is a passionate educator with over ten years of experience working on health and equity through the lens of food access and garden education. She has five years of experience providing culturally specific, healing-centered programming to youth and families in AICHO’s (American Indian Community Housing Organization) permanent supportive housing program, facing some of the greatest health and education disparities in our community. In this role she was an integral member of their food sovereignty team, taking the lead on their Giinawiind Giginitaawigi’gomin program.
Katie has twenty years of experience working in different sectors of the food industry. She’s worked in restaurant kitchens, institutional kitchens, produce departments, and on organic veggie farms. She has fostered the development of community garden sites, school gardens, and garden outreach and education programs. She has cultivated and nurtured a relationship with her own plot of land that she gardens, and the plants and animals that inhabit that land with her, for going on 15 years.
